Home decor with a neutral palette - here's how
Is it weird that for a while now I've been really keen to just bypass summer and jump straight in to autumn? Summer is great, I mean the sun is out (sometimes), there's always a BBQ to go to, people smile more but for me, autumn trumps summer every time. The lead up to autumn is a time when you can begin to re-think your home decor. It's a time to add fresh new colour, new soft furnishings, it's time to fold away summer clothes and shop for a new haul of fall wear and it is definitely a time to organise and declutter. I love autumn. Autumn is my favourite season for several reasons
It's not super cold but here in sunny old Blighty, you'll probably need a coat (bring on autumn wear - autumn fashion is beautiful)
It's a perfect time to declutter, re-organise and pimp your pad
My birthday falls in September
The nights start getting darker earlier so you may want to bring out your sofa snuggler (that trusty blanket that lives on your couch and you begrudgingly put it away for the summer)
Did I mention that my birthday falls in autumn?
The way I approach my home decor is very much like the way I approach my wardrobe. I have staple pieces that see me through the year, however I like to mix it up by adding a few new seasonal pieces here and there. Homes should be ever changing and this is completely feasible because you don't have to make huge changes to make a huge impact.
Everyone wants a Pinterst worthy pad and neutrals are the perfect blank canvass for this. Do you want to kick ass on the decorating front this autumn? Here's how to do it.
1. It's all white
Firstly, be completely unapologetic of your choice. If you want to use just one colour throughout your home, that is your decision. Some people talk them self out of a decision in fear of what other people will think - your home, your choice. If you're thinking of opting for white walls you could try Timeless White by Duleux - it does what it says on the tin. All white an sometimes be quite clinical so one of the ways you can implement a neutral palette is by adding grey, nude and off white furnishings. Working within one particular colour palette keeps a room light, airy and soft.
2. The big white wall
One of the most common questions I've been asked is "what do I do with my big white wall? something has to go on it right?" Just because your walls are devoid of colour it doesn't mean they have to be boring. Here are some ideas of what to do with that big white wall:
Try your hand at some wall art (or get someone in to do it for your).
Hang an amazing, large statement piece of art or blow up your favourite pic.
Create a gallery with a range of different size frames.
A big white wall is a great place to showcase a bookshelf
3. Be bold and colourful
Having neutral walls will make your room feel bright and spacious and what's great about using neutral tones is that you can create a wicked contrast by bringing in colour thorough your furnishings or artwork. So you've got the white walls but you don't want soft neutral tones throughout your home. Why not go or something bold Try accessorising using colour.
