Laptops and Lattes

If you work freelance or often have to work from home, you'll know the struggle of getting into work mode whilst in your comfortable abode. So what do you do? Simple, venture out.  I know, I know, you're worried about going to Starbucks and finding that it's pretty much a shit working environment.  Well not everyday Starbucks... some days explore other spaces that may even ignite and inspire you to take your laptop out in London.

1. Club Workspace

Easy and accessible. Did I mention they're accessible? With different branches around London, you'll find a workspace.co.uk in Bankside, Dulwich, Chiswick, Islington, Kennington and Soutbank. Aside from the fact that you do have to pay a subscription to use this space, it does offer you a space to work, you'll be amongst other creatives and with a bit of exposed brick and original beams the decor isn't half bad either ..

2. Curzon

Aside from being a popular tourist attraction, Curzon is an awesome place to sit, work, and immerse yourself into film culture.  Yes, it is a cinema but earlier this year I had a styling meeting at the Soho branch and downstairs the work space provided the right balance between creative buzz, low lighting, popcorn, coffee and functionality.  I think it worked because my meeting was about styling a pending film screening but why not check it out and see if it works for you.

3. The Barbican

Fancy feeling like Alice in Wonderland? Confusing corridors, randomly placed tables (near power points non the less),  eclectic art work, free WiFi, decent coffee, lovely indoor gardens, never a dull day but yet still quiet enough to get through work - win, win.

4. Timber Yard

Timber Yard is always trending on Twitter. Apparently it's awesome.  How could I not check it out? With one near Covent Gardens, I set off.  Freelancing, laptops, networking (but not in that forced, intrusive, someone disturbing you from your work type of way).  The vibe is great and you're not made to feel as if you have to leave - which leaves your to tap, type and enjoy the array of artisan snacks from local producers. Thumbs up Timber Yard.

5. Sky Gardens

Beautiful surroundings, splendid views, bringing the outside inside, with the stunning plants and flowers (hence the name of the venue).  This place boasts several restaurants and coffee shops, space, quiet... The Sky Gardens has it all.  This isn't a conventional 'work space' but it's lush. If you want to work somewhere, that is a world away from working at home, this is definitely the place

6. The British Library

The British Library.  Those of you who know me know a library is my guilty pleasure, so I don't need an excuse to venture across to one.  let's just think about a library in regards to a work space - makes complete sense. Books on tap, quiet work stations, the gently hum of productivity, did I mention the mass of books you'd have at your fingertips. Carrie Bradshaw wanted to get married in the building that housed all the worlds great love stories. I want to blog in the building that houses the worlds great love stories.

Where's your favourite creative space to work in London?
