Feel Good, Feel Motivated

The last few months have been a lot. Seriously, the combination of having to withdraw Erin-Olivia from nursery during her induction week, having just one week to find child-care, going back to work after maternity leave, balancing new mom Ordella and the old I-want-to-complete-everything-on-my-list-perfectionist-teacher Ordella. The old Ordella who stayed at work until stupid-o-clock to get everything done, all whilst having a creative itch that needs to be scratched - these past few months have taken a toll. This has definitely been the most stressful time of my life thus far.  Being a working mom is hard, but what do you do, sink or swim?

Last week I had a great chat with some of my girls.  You know the type of conversation that gives you life. The type of conversation that has you feeling like you are all kinds of invincible.  The kind of wipe away your tears, wear heels, lipstick and kick ass type of conversation. When you see that you're turning into Captain Negatron, it's imperative to find a way to get out of that mind set.  This blog isn't about ranting and moaning. I just wanted to share my top tips on how to shrug off the meghhhh, start feeling good and get sh*t done.

Look good, feel good

When we look good, we tend to feel better about ourselves, so make an effort.  Regardless of what's going on in your life, how little sleep you've had and this is even more especially important when you're not feeling 100% - get your hair done, wear something that you love, have a manicure or pedicure or both and wear cute underwear, or take a hot relaxing bath  -  trust me, the small things work wonders.  Style is the best armor, so look good and feel good.

Get shit done

There is nothing more satisfying than ticking something off your 'to do' list, so get motivated and be productive. I love digital planners and organisational apps as much as the next person but I also use a little notebook. Writing a list the night before, helps me wake up with a clear focus, knowing my days objectives. I write a positive affirmation then add no more than 3 things to my list.  I used to write a long list but I'd never get through everything and I'd end up disappointed with myself.  A list of 3 is manageable.  "What about those days where I just can't be bothered?", I hear you ask. Well we all have those days where procrastination rears its ugly head but avoiding a task is often part of a bigger problem - face up to why you're putting off doing something.  Allow yourself a day to just be... but no more than once day. Don't wallow, get shit done.

Good Vibes Only

Surround yourself with people who are on your level.  Positivity breeds positivity so consider the company you keep.  Your friends should give you life, make you laugh and they should love you unconditionally. Seriously, you need to be stimulated and feel happy so think about whether our friends offer you this.

Do something you love

Do what makes you happy. Whatever your hobby, passion or guilty pleasure, find time for it. Do what you love! Go to a gig, Netflix and chill, read a book, bake, whatever it is, find time for it. Schedule it in and stick to it. I play netball and have done since I was about 9 years old - I love it.  Exercise will give anyone a high but playing in a team, kicking butt with my girlfriends is the best remedy to a stressful day. If exercise isn't your thing, Prosecco is a fantastic alternative.

I'd love to hear your feel good favs? Feel free to share.
